Gil Cope studied film and photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After apprenticeships with Francesco Scavullo and other top fashion photographers, he ran a successful fashion and product photography studio in New York, where he created work for Revlon, Christian Dior and IBM. Studio photography soon gave way to live action commercials and since then Cope has filmed over 500 spots including Levis, Coke, Target, JC Penny, Honda and Mercedes.
Cope has been observed as a polished and proven director who can handle intimate material or work on a large scale, yet always retains a human dimension. This element of Cope’s work has enabled him to compile a significant library of Health Care advertising that he has directed and photographed, using real physicians and patients in an array of situations.
Gil Cope recently completed directing and photographing a series of commercials for The Boeing Company, Integrated Defense Systems. The commercials utilized testimonials of Boeing employees juxtaposed with recreated scenes of tactical and development environments.
